CEO and Co-Founder

Adv. Eyal Harel

Eyal Harel is a lawyer, entrepreneur and investor with almost two decades of experience in technology development, transfer transactions and global, multicultural negotiations.

Mr. Harel is one of the owners and served as the CEO of the XinTech (Bio Sciences) group of companies, a boutique investment bank promoting Sino-Western technology transfer transactions and strategic collaborations in the life sciences.

He also held the position of legal counsel in Israel for the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (中国土木工程集团公司), one of the largest construction companies in the world and was involved in some of Israel’s biggest construction projects.

Mr. Harel holds an LLB. and an additional diploma in East Asia Studies from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and an MBA from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Dr. Moshe Harel

Dr. Harel is a serial entrepreneur with almost 2 decades of experience in R&D, management and business development. Dr. Harel has led the development of BlueGreen’s Lake Guard™ technology from concept to product, positioning it as the first commercially available unlimited solution for combating large-scale harmful algal blooms in an annual multi-billion-dollar market.

Dr. Harel has received his Ph.D. in environmental microbiology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, and was a postdoc at the Dep. of Molecular and Human Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX.

Mr. Gad Appelbaum

Mr. Appelbaum is the owner of an Israeli investment company operating in the fields of trade and manufacturing and serves as the executive chairman and director on the boards of multiple private and public companies. Among others, Mr. Appelbaum has served as the chairman of the board for Discount Underwriting and is currently serving as a director in Discount Capital Markets, both subsidiaries of Discount Bank (TASE: DSCT, the 3rd largest bank in Israel).

Previously, Mr. Appelbaum has held senior executive positions in the public Israel Corporation (TASE: ILCO), HP Israel (NYSE: HPQ), and with the Accountant General of the Israeli Finance Ministry.

Mr. Appelbaum holds a master’s degree in public administration and a B.A. in economics, both from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Dr. Alan Hoffman

A serial angel investor and a well-recognized internist in Houston, Texas, affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center and Houston Methodist Hospital.

Dr. Hoffman received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine where he is now serving as a faculty member.

Dr. Hoffman has been practicing medicine for over 30 years.

Mr. Erez Vigodman

Erez is an executive with over 25 years of experience in leading global businesses and operations; he served as CEO and president of some of the largest companies in Israel, including Elite, Strauss Group, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, and ADAMA Agricultural Solutions. He has experience in the public sector as well, where he served as a member of the Israel Securities Authority Governing Board, a member of the advisory board to the governor of the Bank of Israel, and a member of the advisory committee to the Israel National Economic Council (prime minister’s office). He focuses primarily on life sciences and climate change (novel technologies & businesses, across the Biotech, Agri-Tech, Food-Tech, and Climate-Tech domains) through various platforms in Israel, Europe, China, and the U.S. Erez has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and economics from Tel Aviv University and a master’s degree in management science (MBA) from MIT.

Chief Marketing Officer

Mr. Maayan Nave

A passionate global PR & marketing strategist and the owner of Now-You Global Communications – an award-winning global PR firm. Mr. Nave was named “Best Global Communications Strategist” for 2017 by the British CV Magazine after spearheading SodaStream (now owned by Pepsico) global PR and communications strategy in 45 markets.

Mr. Nave has vast experience in global marketing strategy, crisis management, business & corporate communications, integrated digital marketing, corporate social responsibility, international public affairs, and media relations.

Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Oori Weisshaus

Dr. Weisshaus has over 12 years of experience in leading and performing research in the academia and industry. Oori has led projects for the development and commercialization of several products, employing computational platforms for applying genomic data for crop enhancement and breeding at NRGene and Evogene (leading genomics/bioinformatics companies in Israel).

Since 2014, when he was appointed CTO of BlueGreen Water Technologies, he has been leading the development process of a novel line of products for tackling harmful algal blooms in freshwater systems. He conducted several field trials in multiple world sites and managed regulatory and IP affairs leading to the current commercial products.

Mr. Zohar Houri

Mr. Zohar Houri is a senior financial management executive with over 25 years of significant management experience in financial & operational areas in various roles in food & AgTech, industrial companies, and telecommunications. 

The combined experience in export-driven businesses and fast-growing companies within a dynamic and global environment enables Zohar to bring strong leadership and broad skills in accounting, finance, legal, taxation, risk management, M&A transactions, and IPOs to his role in BlueGreen Water Technologies.

Mr. Houri holds a BA in accounting, an MBA with honors, and an LLM (master in law), and is a certified public accountant (CPA Isr.).

Mrs. Sagit Cohen

Mrs. Sagit Cohen is a human resources management executive with over 10 years of experience in leading global HR from scratch for different organizations: venture capital, high-tech, and industrial companies. She is a consultant and a coach with experience in the development and implementation of global HR strategies.

Sagit is also the founder of a senior HR community that includes thousands of professional members.

Her experience and expertise in fast-growing companies within a dynamic and global environment enable her to professionally lead the global HR at BlueGreen Water Technologies.

Mrs. Sagit Cohen holds a BA in education, a coaching certificate from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and an MBA in international organizational management.

Prof. Aaron Kaplan

Prof. Aaron Kaplan is well-known for his research and findings on the mechanisms that drive ecological processes, such as the CO2 concentrating mechanism in algae and cyanobacteria and the response of photosynthetic microorganisms to changing environmental conditions, focusing on those which determine the dynamics and composition of phytoplankton assemblages.

Prof. Kaplan has published over 170 research papers in leading scientific journals, wrote several scientific reviews and book chapters, served as a guest editor of a special issue on toxic cyanobacteria, and holds two patents.

Prof. Kaplan has received his Ph.D. in plant biology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he holds a full professor position. He was a post-doctoral research associate at the Carnegie Inst., Stanford University, the USA, and a visiting professor at the Nagoya and Tokyo Universities in Japan and the Konstanz University in Germany.

Prof. Kaplan served as the scientific director of the Arid Ecosystem Research Centre and the Interuniversity Institute for Marine Sciences in Eilat. He serves on numerous national and international research panels, scientific societies, and granting agencies and as a reviewer for leading journals and granting agencies in Israel, USA, Europe, Canada, Australia, and Japan.

Mr. Israel Sandler

Israel Sandler is an executive with over 25 years of experience in leading global businesses and operations. An innate leader with proven results in directing customer-oriented teams in various industries, cultures, and world regions and diverse international experience in strategic planning, business development, and P&L management. Mr. Sandler holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University, an MBA from Tel Aviv University, and has graduated from the AMP program from INSEAD.  

US Director of Operations

Dr. Waleed Nasser

Dr. Nasser is a cross-disciplinary scientist with over 20 years’ experience in end-to-end solutions in biochemistry, microbiology, infectious diseases, genome sequencing, and bioinformatics.

Dr. Nasser holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemical/biophysical sciences from the University of Houston and a Ph.D. from Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), where he studied the complex interspecies interactions among soil microorganisms. He completed a 3-year post-doctoral training in the Center for Molecular and Translational Human Infectious Diseases Research at the Houston Methodist Research Institute.

China Director of Operations

Ms. Wang Pu

Ms. Wang has more than twenty-five years of hands-on experience in the life science industry in China. She joined BlueGreen in 2018 as the country manager and is in charge of launching its products in China. Prior to joining BlueGreen, Ms. Wang was Co-CEO and one of the founders of the XinTech (BioScience) group of companies, a boutique investment bank facilitating licensing, co-development, and M&A transactions between Chinese and Western Biomed companies.

Career highlights include executive positions with Syngenta China, the world’s largest agrochemical company; Burrill & Company, a San Francisco-based life-science-oriented venture capital and merchant banking firm; Bayer China, and the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture.

Ms. Wang holds an MBA from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, a master’s degree in economics from China Agricultural University, and a B.Sc. in chemistry from Jilin Agricultural University.

Russia Director of Operations

Mr. Michael Fishman

Michael has more than 10 years of experience in the development, commercialization, and launching of innovative products in the CIS countries market.

He led several projects for the Russian investment fund, from the seed round until extensive commercial growth, in the field of chemistry and polymers. Michael also has experience in the field of transfer technology from Israel to Russia and back.
Mr. Fishman holds a BA in economics and an MBA from Kazan State University.
In addition, he is the owner and co-founder of several start-up companies in Russia.

South Africa Director of Operations

Mr. Jurgens Van Loggerenberg

Starting his career in the industrial electronic and IT fields, Jurgens made a career change in 2001 to the municipal water treatment sector. He has a total of 20 years of experience in the municipal water treatment industry. He started as a service technician in 2001 for Neochem cc, a distributor of Floccotan, with responsibilities mainly consisting of drinking-water treatment-plant chemical treatment, optimization, and troubleshooting. In 2003, he joined Sud Chemie as a technical sales representative responsible for Mpumalanga municipalities, water boards, mining, Power water-treatment chemical sales, plant optimization, and troubleshooting. In 2006, he was promoted to area manager of Mpumalanga and Swaziland. In 2010, he was promoted to regional manager Free State, establishing one of the first distribution warehouses in Bloemfontein with the responsibilities of the warehouse, stock control, logistics, and staff. In 2012, his responsibilities extended to Lesotho, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, North West, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and Gauteng as the inland regional manager, with the sales, operations, and admin teams reporting to him. In 2013, Jurgens joined Chemical Company Protea Chemicals and established a commodity distribution hub in Bloemfontein for the formulation industry with the full responsibility of the operation. In 2014, Jurgens returned to the water treatment sector as regional manager for Clariant, which was later acquired by the AECI water treatment company, Improchem. In 2016, he was promoted to Senior Business Development Manager, focusing on specialized water treatment technologies in Africa. In 2019, Jurgens was promoted to Industry Specialist Public Water for AECI Water.

 

With the deterioration of raw water source quality, on which all life forms are dependent, Jurgens decided to pursue the challenge of improving water quality in Africa and founded Water Technovation in 2020. Focusing on water quality improvement through innovative technologies and global partnerships, he represents BlueGreen Water Technologies in Africa.
